Welcome Letter

A Note from Phamaly’s Leaders

Dear YOU:

What an absolute pleasure and honor it is to welcome you to the opening production of Phamaly’s 35th anniversary season. Long before the two of us started at this company, five founders had a dream that disability theatre wasn’t just fun and exciting, but vital to a sustainable artistic society. Who would have thought that 35 years later, Phamaly would have grown to the magnitude that it has.

When figuring out what overarching theme our season should hold, we wanted a message that encapsulated the essence of what this organization has meant for so long and so we landed on “You Belong.” Every show you see this season will have that same feeling of inclusion as the blood that courses through the production.

On the surface, Miss Holmes, appears to be your typical fun murder mystery. At it’s core, it tells an absolutely poignant story about what it means to feel isolated from a larger community and what it takes to fight back against that isolation. From the moment this cast got together, it was clear that this ensemble held a special magic within them that pointed to all the values we hold dear at Phamaly. That special ensemble was led by the incomparable Mare Trevathan. While this may be her Phamaly debut, Mare has been a quintessential Phamaly director for years. Approaching theatre with love, passion, and kindness, Mare has captained this ship into unknown waters. We couldn’t be more pleased to have her join our Phamaly.

We hope you enjoy this fun and thrilling piece of theatre, and that it helps you think about how far we have come as a society, but even more importantly…how far we have yet to go. And so without further ado, we invite you to lean forward and enjoy Miss Holmes.

All of our love,

Ben Raanan, Artistic Director
